Hi.

Welcome. I very slowly document my adventures in travel and food.

Netflix Binge: The OA

It's Winter here in NYC, which means it's also binge TV time! While Sam and I typically avoid a lot of television, it's that time of year where the weather is bitter cold, the roads are icy, and we're not drinking. There's not a lot of things to do around the house outside of the perpetual cleaning and cooking, and of course all the reading (I'll get to my reading list soon!), so evening that aren't spent with friends are spent as cozy couch nights at home. We recently binged on Netflix's newest hit (?), The OAWhile I'm definitely not going to give out any spoilers here, I just wanted to share a few thoughts about the show and it's devices. There's been a lot of recaps and hubbub around the web about it, so if you're looking for that, get to google. The main thing that I was rather surprised about was the show's usage of modern dance.  It's more central to the show than in any other show in the existence of "network" TV. While some aspects of it weren't well received by all parties in the house, I was particularly touched by the first time it really had a promise. I thought the scenes featuring the dances were well shot and well executed. There's something interesting about the body and movement as a language that I think the show did a great job bringing forward. So, while there are obviously some difficulties with the show, there is something to love about taking risks, and using new devices to be celebrated.
